Goodness, I did not think I'd ever find myself posting on this part of this forum! We just had a little boy on New Years Eve and I'll be needing to use some kind of bc starting in February. I plan to chart, but until that becomes reliable, I need something else!
I'm not comfortable taking anything with hormones and would rather not have an IUD. So I know that doesn't leave me with many options. What are your thoughts and experiences? I'm mostly interested in hearing about cervical caps and diaphragms but open to whatever.
I'll be EBF for at least 5 more months, but I got my first ppaf after my dd at 11 weeks and got pregnant on my third cycle, all while EBF... so I def can't count on that.

DH and I used condoms for years before TTC and were quite happy with them.
I also have a diaphragm. It was quite expensive, because it wasn't covered by insurance. I don't totally trust it, because I'm not sure if it really fits correctly, and diaphragms are not as effective as other methods.

I used they Caya diaphram for a few months before deciding to ttc this time around and I liked it. It seemed like a nice alternative to condoms, although it took me a little bit to have confidence in it. I'll be using it again after this one is born till charting is more reliable.

BFP 10/6/16! Praying for a rainbow baby!
We've done the diaphragm almost our entire marriage that we weren't pregnant or trying to get pregnant. We both like it. I ended up with the caya brand this time, which is a one size fits most in a silicone material. I've had sized diaphragms in both latex and silicone, but prefer the silicone. It's harder, sometimes, to track CF but ymmv.

I want to say that I haven't used the diaphragm but my best friend has used it for many years, and she loves it. It has worked for her very well and it's something I will consider when our tta time arrives. The main hassle with it is that they are harder to find and her Dr makes fun of her for it. Haha!

Thank you ladies! This is all super helpful!
We used charting + condoms during the fertile phase while TTA for a few years and were happy with it! I think the key to that being so successful for us was using a condom anytime there was even a remote chance I was fertile. My cycles were very predictable though, so that definitely helped us have confidence about when O was each month.

TTA while exclusively breastfeeding
My charts (sorry - I chart on paper, mainly, so these charts are hardly ever up to date)
When we were TTA right after we got married we used FAM + condoms. It turns out we probably didn't need to be using anything (ha!), but we were happy at the time. Condoms are kind of a hassle, but it was the best option for us. Like you, I need to avoid hormones and wasn't comfortable with an IUD, so it didn't leave many options. We used condoms after day 5 during the fertile phase and then nothing after I confirmed ovulation. We were super strict and never "cheated," which is huge if avoiding is really important to you! Good luck finding something that works for you guys :)

Thank you!! I'll let you know what we decide in a few weeks after chatting with the midwives!
Let us know what you decide! I just asked about a diaphragm at my 38 wk appt today since you got me intrigued. I guess I can do a fitting for one at my 6 wk PP check. I think it would be nice to have an option besides condoms or wd

Just an update after my pp appt today. We decided to go with a diaphragm, which I will get fitted for next week. Plus FAM
obviously. We discussed the paraguard IUD since its non hormonal but she said it would make my periods heavier and crampier and didn't recommend it if they were already bad.
Thanks for all the input!
Great! Please update us after you have used the diaghram for a while and what you think of it.
Thanks for the update!
